  TrustFall
by Merly Suarez (ACM missionary to China)

Friday was weird. For one, I was early to class, and that was when it happened. Though it wouldn't hurt the class if we do this little exercise. So I asked several students to come up to the front and call on their bestfriends from the class and have them stand right behind them. At our collective count, they're supposed to let themselves fall backwards (buttocks and back touching the ground) without looking back and their bestfriends are supposed to catch them.

As you would have guessed, not very many really trusted their bestfriends although the latter were ready to catch them. So I had them exchange positions. Now that was more fun! Very few really did the trustfall.
I guess I couldn't blame them. It was hard for me to do it as well. It took Big Daddy to take away everything before He could get my attention. Some of you must have heard it. You know my little story. It's about the fire that killed 25 people in my workplace almost five years ago, but saved mine, literally.

I lost my job, all materials for my masteral thesis, and any semblance of lovelife I had-all at once! The same incident catapulted me to thinking beyond myself, and eventually spewed me out of by comfortable home to take on "the adventure of a lifetime"-being here in China.
Actually, I shared this with my students. Interesting how they were all ears. I was even using the word "God" in the vernacular. I asked them, "So do you think I heard right from God that I should come to China?"
"Yeah!" they all replied. "Do you think I did right trusting God after what happened to me?" I continued.

"Yeah." They answered again although now the voices were a bit unsure.
However, one suddenly stood out in the sea of murmurs just dying down, "But how can we hear from God?"
With a twinkle in my eye, I said: "Now, that's something we can talk about after class…"
